Working mum
Waw things have changed since purchasing Fair Dinkum Dog Coats in 2007! I purchased the business from a friend who offered to teach me how to run every aspect of the business, including teaching me to sew. Yes that's right, I didn't know how to sew! At 19 I was willing to give anything a go and soon after age 20 purchased a pet shop that I was supplying with coats with my mother.
2012 we sold the pet shop as my husband Courtney and I were due to have our first child Monique. Becoming a mother also lead me to downsize Fair Dinkum Dog Coats into a purely retail business. I decided that I wanted to work less hours and make a decent wage which wholesale was not providing.
What a rewarding decision this turned out to be! From my experience in the pet shop I realized that there was a huge demand for custom order coats to fit any breed of dog. So instead of slaving away supplying the 30 Australian pet shops I then became the go too girl for custom coats to fit breeds such as greyhounds, whippets etc.
2013 became the year of the greyhound and whippets for me, but I loved every moment of it. Especially the emails of thanks as these customers were so happy to finally have their beloved pets warm in a fitted coat. This was also the year of the international sales with coats being posted to Germany, New Zealand and England.
2014 I worked right up until the birth of our beautiful second child Phoebe who arrived in May and we have been enjoying the warmer weather as a family down at Torquay.
2015 I'm back all guns blazing! At this point in time we will be attending Glen Eira Pet Expo and Knox Pets in the park. The blog will be updated soon with all events that we will be attending.
So the plan for 2015 is to be an amazing wife, mother of two and dog coat machinist extraordinaire.
Wish me luck!
Elise

Help Rescue Greyhounds
We would like to help out two very well deserving organizations, Amazing Greys and Greyhound Safety Net. On purchase of a Fair Dinkum greyhound coat mention either organization and we will donate $5.00 of the sale to the organization of your choosing.

Ran into a friend down the street today that was wondering what to do about her dogs eyes as she suspected the dog may have a mild case of conjunctivitis. I was able to tell her to wash the dogs eyes out with camomile tea for the next few days and see if that helps. I advised to see vet if she didnt see any improvement. A rough guide as to what i would do...
How to make up solution:
hot water and pop the camomile tea bag in. Let cool to room temperature.
For the first couple of days i would try to flush dog / horse / etc. eyes out 3 times a day using a dropper.
If no improvement go see the vet.
If you do notice an improvement back off to 2 rinses for the next couple of days then 1 rinse for the following couple of days.
By this time you should have flushed the infection out.
Its worked for me many times in the past with my fur babies. I have also used it on myself successfully.
Thought this was a handy tip to share :)

Pregnant again
22/01/2014
Been a very long time since my last blog. Monique (now 15months and keeping me on my toes, my husband Courtney, the border collies and i have had a great time down Torquay at the beach over christmas break. Im now back home and ready for orders. I must also inform everyone that i am pregnant again and expecting in May. It is because of this i ask anyone interested in having a coat made this season to please place the order ASAP. Although pregnancy is going well so far i may be a little too tired chasing a toddler around closer to the pregnancy and may not be excepting orders. If i do decide to not except orders i will have it very clearly advertised on the front page of the website, so unless you see otherwise i am all hands on deck!
Hope everyone had a great christmas and new years. Lets hope 2014 is a good one!

Hi
Elise,
I received the
coat for our greyhound about 2 weeks ago and its great! She can move around and
sleep in it well, and keeps her warm which was my main concern coming
into winter.
Looks
nice too especially with that big woolly collar!
Thanks
again,

Hi Elise,
I just wanted to thank you for the gorgeous coat that arrived over
a week ago, it fits really well on our girl and I love the little bit of
patterned fabric on the topline...very beautiful and girly!
She's had to use it in the last week on walks, with some chilly 1
degree mornings here in Healesville!
Thanks again
Adrian, VIC
